What a fabulous holiday

Talk about an awesome week in Big bear!!!!
We had a small parade, kids throwing snowballs, and great family time here over Christmas. I'm so happy to be a resident of the Big Bear Lake area.

Wonderful guests too! We made cookies everyday and coffee for the check-in's and would you believe it that a party brought us the same!!!! We said "Greetings and please help yourself to some of our freshly baked cookies and they almost said it in harmony. So we shared the sugary delights while exchanging info and keys by our little fire. (Epic check-in time)

Having a great time here and looking forward to meeting our three groups today, feels like they are all my best friends and it's sad watching them go lol

Merry Christmas Eve to all....

Here at the Gold Rush Resort Rentals we are getting ready for Christmas! Our stocking are hung, and some elves must have come while we were away, cause we have gifts under our tree! We have trimmed the tree and hung the stockings with care. We are sitting by the cozy fire while we make some fresh cookies and hot cocoa, cause Santa's on his way! If you'd like to leave me a message you know I'm not only one his helpers but me and "The Big Guy" go way back. I have ties with Santa himself, and he knows I'm always good. Snowman Pet
I made myself a snowball,
As perfect as can be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet,

The first Christmas tree

This is the story I tell my children every year as we put up our Christmas tree, I was so excited to find it in poem form so I had to share with all of you! Have a Merry Merry Christmas

I love how the snow sticks to the branches when it's cold outside. Just dont stand under a tree that looks like this!!! I was not one to note that gravity is potentially everywhere, after shovling the walkway for our supply container I heaved a heavy shovel load over my head and it seemed to land directly in the tree listed here, knocking down about 100 lb's of snow on the beaten path I had created.

Ohhh well.....

Too bad April Fools day is in the spring, seems i found a great joke to play on the next person that need supplies :)

Wildlife in Big Bear

We have so much wildlife here in Big Bear. The animal abound all over place
In each and every tree you'll find cute gray squirrels, along with blue jays, woodpeckers and black crows. You may even spot a red tail hawk or if your really lucky a majestic bald eagle.


There's chipmunks roaming the ground and raccoons sneaking around at night. Its possible you'll see a coyote, and you may run into a skunk or a beaver along the forest trail. We also have bigger wildlife such as bobcats, mule deer big horn sheep and yes we still have bears! They may not be the wild grizzly bears that we got our name from, but we do have smaller black bears roaming the hills.


You may not want to share whats in your picnic basket, but you could always put out some peanuts, bird seed or even old bread and watch to see the wildlife come out to share your treats.

Getting ready for christmas?

What a beautiful day here in Big Bear! With the fresh snow on the tree tops and glistening on the ground I sit by the fire all snug in the office. Awesome Snow Conditions in Big Bear !

Big Bear Lake is experiencing the best snow conditions of the 2011 season. The season began in November, and between the snow that Mother Nature left and the snow making abilities at the Resorts, the base soon built to one to two feet of machine groomed packed powder. With the help of Mother Nature's cold temperatures, this base has been maintained.

Snow making has extended to the highest runs.

This week will be perfect for snowboarding and skiing at the Resorts.

Cold temperatures will remain in the mid-30's to the mid-40's all week.

In fact, snow predicted for the weekend has already dropped 2 inches, 2 days early!

Realizing this, the Holiday week is a perfect time to visit the San Bernardino Mountains for skiing and boarding. If you haven't already, book your lodging as soon as possible. With the wonderful snowy weather, we are expecting maximum fun time on the slopes!

When I walked into the Gold Rush office this morning I wore my sunglasses and had my coffee from home. Skies were clear and partly cloudy, no wind and a little chilly. After leaving for lunch I walked out into a blizzard!!! Snow everywhere and no signs of it letting up. Skiing is going to be great!!!!

Children In Big Bear want to know, "When Did Mrs. Claus come in the picture?"

Though no mention was made of her, Santa Claus' wife made her debut in 1899 in Santa Claus on a Sleigh Ride, one of a set of thirty-two books by Katharine Lee Bates, composer of "America the Beautiful.

In 1908, another story encouraged children to start leaving a little food for Santa Claus because he would be tired after his hard work. Carrots and other treats were later added for his reindeer. Of course, Santa always left a note thanking the children for their kindness.

A 1910 advertisement for Ivory Soap showed a child sitting in front of the fireplace with a bowl of water, a towel and a bar of Ivory soap so that Santa could wash up after coming down the chimney. Following the ad to the letter, soiled wash clothes and dirty water was often found on Christmas morning.
