Have fun and grill hearty - let's party....

Let's begin with a refreshing festive punch....
Independence Punch

What you need:

Cranberry Juice
Blue Gatorade Frost
Diet 7-Up
Ice cubes

What to do:

(Either in a Glass or a drink dispenser)

Fill the glass or drink dispenser with Ice.

Pour In the Cranberry Juice.

Next Pour in the Blue Gatorade Frost, BUT make sure that when you're pouring the Blue Gatorade Frost that you pour straight onto some of the ice to gently add the layer. If you pour it directly into the juice it will mix!

Next, pour in the Diet 7up, also pour onto an ice cube to prevent them from mixing.

I suppose you could do this with any color drink combo.
Try other colored drinks for other seasons or holidays.

You need to use drinks with varying amounts of sugar, since those that contain more sugar (such as soda) are denser than those with less (such as diet drinks), this makes it possible to actually stack one on top of another.

Did you know that here in the Big Bear Valley numerous movies and TV shows have been filmed, many to do with the beauty and splendor of the mountains! Quite a few of these movies helped establish a place for Hollywood Notables to come to, to escape the city!

Teachers ruled the trout on Big Bear Lake this week!

This week brought a group of teachers from Arizona to Big Bear Lake for team building, relaxation and fun times! We took the teachers out fishing in small groups over the past six days and everyone loved the lake and enjoyed themselves and found out how much fun trolling for rainbow trout can be. They each reeled in multiple trout and learned that fishing is a great thrill and challenge at the same time. The weather was spectacular and the group remarked how nice it was to not be in 114 degree temperatures and out of the desert and in a lush green forest. It was also nice to hear that they each want to bring their families back to experience the beauty and activities of the mountains. This past week the majority of our trout were caught trolling from Metcalf Bay to the dam and over to north shore at Grays Landing. Many quality 2-2.5 lb trout were caught from the surface to 25 feet. Night crawlers on the down riggers at 6ft and 15ft and Dick Nites in brass with orange and brass with chartreuse, PKLures 1/4oz copper flutter fish along with prototypes from PKLures are all working on leaded lines 3.5 to 4 colors. Various flies on the surface were working well in the mornings. If you are thinking of bringing a group to Big Bear Lake for a retreat make sure to check out Gold Rush Resort Rentals for awesome cabins that neighbor each other in great locations http://www.bigbearrentalcabins.com/big-bear-cabins-for-groups.htm There are many activities for groups to participate in together like charter fishing. Lucky Bear Fishing Charters can accommodate up to eight adults comfortably on our fully loaded pontoon boat or up to 10 people if at least two children are in the group. Lucky Bear is perfect for bringing families, friends or coworkers together for a unforgettable trout fishing experience on a gorgeous lake that provides unlimited photo opportunities. The teachers enjoyed jet skiing, cruising around in a pontoon rental, Miss Liberty boat tour, zip lining and charter fishing. Here are some other great ideas for activities or things to do while staying in Big Bear Lake http://www.bigbearrentalcabins.com/concierge/ Big Bear Lake is a perfect place to create lasting lifetime memories and also relax and enjoy all of the natural beauty the mountains and lake have to offer. These teachers were not all sure that they would like to fish but all found out that trout fishing is the ultimate fun thing to do on Big Bear Lake. As soon as they caught their first fish they each were hooked. Most enjoyed eating the fresh trout they caught themselves and wanted to have it more than once for dinner. It was nice to know that these fine teachers who came from Arizona left the San Bernardino National Forest hooked and wanting to come back for more trout fishing and fun times on Big Bear Lake! Call Mike or Trish at Lucky Bear Fishing if you have questions or want to book a charter 909-866-7303 www.luckybearfishing.com

Happy Fathers day to all the daddies out there!

Here is a little Poem I wrote to my father today and I wanted to share it with everyone...

To my father who I love so dearly

I should have listened to you in the past

But now I hear your words so clearly

I would give anything to make them last

You showed me so much in the time we had

You’ll always be such a wonderful dad

I value our memories and hold them dear

Here I am, in this world without fear

Today is your day, and I send you my love

With all my strength I know you’ll receive it from above

I feel your presence and let out a sigh

Knowing you hear me as plain as this day

From the sky

Happy Fathers Day

Summer is here and kids are getting out of school and going fishin'

In the past couple of weeks the weather has been extreme and dramatic to say the least. We have gone from folks wearing their ski clothes to fish in to shorts and tank tops in less than one week. The trout can't take off winter jackets and put on summer shorts so we'll assume that they are adjusting to these weather changes like we are! Trout fishing has officially got tough and many people are spending the day with not many bites. The best suggestions we can give is to stay determined and have a fun time! If you switch up your lure or bait about every fifteen minutes and change locations and depths often you should be able to round up some nice quality rainbow trout. The chance of catching a trophy size trout also exists. If there was any consistency to lures, locations, depth or other useful information we would provide it. The best thing to do is keep fishing and trying different things. The lures that worked the most in the past week are a variety of needlefish, PKLures, Rapalas and night crawlers. The trout were caught from surface to 25 feet. As quick as the trout turned off they should turn back on. In the meantime, patience is part of fishing and that is something that's not too bad to learn on gorgeous Big Bear Lake. The weather is exceptional and the lake is still wide open so get up for some fun summer time fishing. It's going to be a fun Father's Day Fishing Weekend on the lake! All these cute kids caught some fish this week but they also learned patience and were perfect sports.

Trout are Moving West and Playing Hard to Get!

Fishing can be challenging and fun at the same time and this weekend proved just that! The good news is you can catch some nice hard fighting trout right now on Big Bear Lake. Even better news is you could catch your trophy trout anytime and almost anywhere if you have a line in the water! Now the bad news is you must work a little harder and be patient and there is no better lake to spend time fishing on than Big Bear Lake. The preparation, wait and then landing the fish is what make fishing exciting and worth it all- especially when there's a beautiful rainbow trout at the end of the line! Well the trout are continuing to move around and adjust with the change in seasons. The water temperature has risen rapidly in the past month and this is when the trout go west and can play hard to get. In a three hour trip we averaged anywhere from 4 to 22 rainbow trout in the past three days. Good news is big fish are being caught and most of our trout have been nice 1 1/2 to 2 lb hold overs. There is no rhyme or reason to when, where and what will work right now! The secret is to be determined, keep changing locations, depths and lures if necessary. Most fish were caught on the south shore from Metcalf Bay to Lagunita Lodge and back. Lures that produced the most were a variety of PKLures and Rapalas. Copper, silver and brass all worked and perch and rainbow patterns hit most. PK flutter fish in silver and copper were on fire at times. 3/4 oz was hitting some nice size hard fighters. Night crawlers also were hot and then cold. Depths that hit most were between 19-24 feet and 6-7 feet on down riggers. Three to five colors on the leaded lines. Can't be specific about much now because variety is the name of the game and there is no consistency yet. Book your cabin with Gold Rush Resort Rentals and get up where the skies are sunny and blue! It's time to experience good, clean fishing on one of the most beautiful lakes in California. If you fish with Lucky Bear we will clean your fish so you can take back to your cabin to cook and enjoy! You may also catch and release. Call Mike and Trish at Lucky Bear Fishing to book a charter or for fishing suggestions for trolling 909-866-7303. Go to Big Bear Sporting Goods for shore and still fishing supplies and suggestions. Fishin' for 50K Trout Derby is this weekend- A TAGGED FISH WORTH 50K! It's time to relax, enjoy life and go fishing in Big Bear Lake. Check out the photo below of Alberto from Fishhound - that's a tagged 2.6 lb bow from May Trout Classic that did not get caught on tournament days!

The History of Flag Day

Flag Day was officially established by the Proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson on May 30th, 1916. Some state and local communities celebrated Flag Day - the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777, but it wasn't an organized effort.

While Flag Day was celebrated after Wilson's proclamation, It was not until August 3rd, 1949, that President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day.

Most Americans let this day pass as any other day! Let's get those flags flying everyday and display them correctly! We are a proud and mighty nation and we need to keep those flags flying!

I hope you have a great weekend, if we can assist you in making it great in Big Bear, please give us a call!
