Trout are Moving West and Playing Hard to Get!

Fishing can be challenging and fun at the same time and this weekend proved just that! The good news is you can catch some nice hard fighting trout right now on Big Bear Lake. Even better news is you could catch your trophy trout anytime and almost anywhere if you have a line in the water! Now the bad news is you must work a little harder and be patient and there is no better lake to spend time fishing on than Big Bear Lake. The preparation, wait and then landing the fish is what make fishing exciting and worth it all- especially when there's a beautiful rainbow trout at the end of the line! Well the trout are continuing to move around and adjust with the change in seasons. The water temperature has risen rapidly in the past month and this is when the trout go west and can play hard to get. In a three hour trip we averaged anywhere from 4 to 22 rainbow trout in the past three days. Good news is big fish are being caught and most of our trout have been nice 1 1/2 to 2 lb hold overs. There is no rhyme or reason to when, where and what will work right now! The secret is to be determined, keep changing locations, depths and lures if necessary. Most fish were caught on the south shore from Metcalf Bay to Lagunita Lodge and back. Lures that produced the most were a variety of PKLures and Rapalas. Copper, silver and brass all worked and perch and rainbow patterns hit most. PK flutter fish in silver and copper were on fire at times. 3/4 oz was hitting some nice size hard fighters. Night crawlers also were hot and then cold. Depths that hit most were between 19-24 feet and 6-7 feet on down riggers. Three to five colors on the leaded lines. Can't be specific about much now because variety is the name of the game and there is no consistency yet. Book your cabin with Gold Rush Resort Rentals and get up where the skies are sunny and blue! It's time to experience good, clean fishing on one of the most beautiful lakes in California. If you fish with Lucky Bear we will clean your fish so you can take back to your cabin to cook and enjoy! You may also catch and release. Call Mike and Trish at Lucky Bear Fishing to book a charter or for fishing suggestions for trolling 909-866-7303. Go to Big Bear Sporting Goods for shore and still fishing supplies and suggestions. Fishin' for 50K Trout Derby is this weekend- A TAGGED FISH WORTH 50K! It's time to relax, enjoy life and go fishing in Big Bear Lake. Check out the photo below of Alberto from Fishhound - that's a tagged 2.6 lb bow from May Trout Classic that did not get caught on tournament days!
