Big Bear Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest officially opens today and runs every weekend thru October 27th.  Oktberfest is one of Big Bear Lakes main events and is reputed to be the largest Oktoberfest event held in Southern California. Many of our guests and tourists to Big Bear make attending this fun loving activity an annual tradition. The fun of Oktoberfest starts each Saturday at noon with German bands, polka dances, and events for the entire family.

Today, the Oktoberfest is opening with a salute to our America’s Hero's. This evenings opening ceremony will reflect an acknowledgment of the sacrifice made by the brave men and women in all services of our military, fire fighters, and our men in blue. Any attending guests that have I.D. verifying that they are part of that team will get in for free.

The Big Bear Oktoberfest draws some rather large attendance, if you're planning to attend, you may want to heed some of our advise to help make your attendance more enjoyable.

Fun for the whole family! As you would expect, there are German bands and dancing, an awesome way to introduce young children to the German cultural experience. If you have young children, make your trip to the event on Sunday. Sundays are family day and children under 12 get free admission and adult tickets are only half price. Besides music and dancing there are also a variety of contests you can choose to participate in or just simply watch and enjoy the entertainment! For kids, their contests begin on Sundays at approx. 3:00 p.m. and can include pretzel eating, polka tots, and other themed activities.

Other fun activities at the fest besides the music and contests are the vendors offering an array of items to purchase as well as face painting, bounce houses, pony rides, and, there's even a petting zoo.

Try some German Cuisine:
Don't forget, or, if you don't know, Oktoberfest is also known for its German delicacies and wonderful food! There are many varieties to choose from you'll have a difficult time narrowing it down, or maybe decide to sample a few. Either way, you won't be disappointed! What would an Oktoberfest be without Bratwurst, Knockwurst, Polish sausage, Sauerkraut, and German Potato salad. Don't worry, for those of you who are less adventurous or have children who have finicky palates, there's also the good ol' American favorite, hot dogs, hamburgers, and more. So, there's no way to leave hungry!

Good Ol' German Beer! It doesn't get any better than this! For those of you who are 18 years and older and enjoy a good brew, there's over a dozen different beers to choose from. Indulger's will not have to worry about driving as O’Doul’s is sponsoring a Free Shuttle ride back to your cabin from the festivities.

All and all, this years Oktoberfest is sure to please, we hope to see you up in Big Bear soon!
