Coming soon .... some new high altitude recipes

I have just been given a new cook book!  It's called "Pie in the Sky".  It is totally about baking practices and secrets for baking in high altitudes, and it's chock full of recipes!
I have lived at a mile high (in altitude) or more for the last 26 years and have, of course, done a lot of baking over the years.  I have followed, or not, the "high altitude" directions in the same recipe at different times and have really not noticed any difference in taste or consistency, so we will see ...
My goal is to pick a recipe and try it out using the high altitude changes and then again not using them, and report back.  If it turns out to be a worthy dish, I will also post the recipe in my blog. Check back for the results!!

Mr. & Mrs. Claus to visit Big Bear Village

If you are planning on being here in Big Bear for the Christmas season - at least up until December 23rd, you will be able to catch Mr. and Mrs. Claus on the corner of Pine Knot Blvd. and Village Dr., "holding court" and taking requests from the kids.  They will be there from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.  It's another great Big Bear tradition and photo opportunity!
The whole town is taking on it's Christmas persona more and more every day with local businesses and private homes donning their outside Christmas decorations and lights.  It is fun to see daily (and nightly) changes that are taking place when driving through town.
Now all we need is some snow ..........

Think Snow!

With Thanksgiving behind us, we look forward to the Christmas season just ahead!
We had that little surprise snow storm in the weeks before Thanksgiving that got everyone excited for our upcoming snowy ski and snowboarding season.  Both resorts were in full swing early.  Then that fickle Mother Nature decided to throw us a curve ball and turn our day time temperatures back up a bit.  Night time temps have been staying true to the season - down in the low 30's and high 20's so the ski resorts have been able to do some snow making at night.
It looks like weather forecasts are being favorable for maybe some precipitation later this coming week so send some positive thoughts our way for some of that "white stuff" that makes our town sparkle and puts smiles on the town's business owners faces!!
In other words do your snow dance and .......  THINK SNOW !!!
