A new feature to our website!

If you haven't noticed already, we have a new feature that has been added - for your convenience - to the information on our website!
When you are perusing the information on each of our cabins, check out the tab "MAP PROPERTY".   When you click on that tab you will see a Google version map of just where the cabin is located here in Big Bear.  You can zoom in by using the "plus" symbol at the left side of the map and if you click on the "satellite" tab on the upper right of the map, you will get a real time view of the neighborhood and the cabin of your choice.
But wait!  Scroll down just a little further on the page and you have the opportunity to put in an address and map your drive from that cabin to any one of the local attractions listed below on the page!  And just check out our list of nearby attractions! Everything from the location of the Gold Rush main office, to local restaurants, marinas, ski resorts, ski and equipment rental shops, shopping, activities and various tour options are listed there for easy access - making planning your visit to our beautiful valley that much more stress-less, giving you a plethora of ideas on things to do while you are here.  You can even print out your directions beforehand to bring with you!  Our website is so fantastically "user friendly" - this is just another great feature to help you choose the best possible cabin for your Big Bear adventure!

Ham for the Holiday!

It's just about Easter and it's time to start "hamming" it up! LOL, we always make a large ham for Easter. We like it sweet, we found two awesome ways to prepare and make a very delicious ham for the holiday.

We thought we'd share this in enough time for you to go out and buy the necessary items for the big day!

Here's two instructional videos to help you with preparing
One is for using honey the other uses brown sugar.

Honey Ham - tastes very similar to the original Honey Baked Ham (only it costs way less)

This one is very good as well but uses lots of brown sugar

Rabbits aren't the only animal that is popular for this holiday!

Tell us what you think!

Spring in Big Bear Valley

Spring has sprung in Big Bear Valley!

This is one of the most beautiful times of the year in our valley!  You should plan on coming to see the wildflowers blooming, the fish jumping and maybe try one of the hiking or mountain bike trails that crisscross our valley and traverse over National Forest land!

And of course there is still "Spring skiing" conditions at both resorts - at least until mid April, at this point for this year.

The lake will re open on April 1st for boating and fishing out on the lake.  We have "Segway" tours and a Zip line adventure area, off road tours, kayak and canoe tours and rentals to explore the lake a little more "up close and personal", informational nature walks, of course the Village for fine dining and shopping experiences, the Alpine Zoo, check out our concierge info, and of course, just relaxing and unwinding in the clean fresh air above it all here at 7000 feet - as one of our local personalities says "a mile and a quarter closer to Heaven"!

Last but not least, check out our current specials for reduced rates on your favorite cabin, or be adventurous and try another cabin from our inventory!

Hope to see you soon!

Create Beautiful Edible Art for Easter

Here's a twist on dyeing Easter Eggs! Check out this instructional video on creating a unique Easter egg using the same dye you use for the typical Easter egg.

This is easy and the eggs turn out awesome!

Real Magic Carpets Found in Big Bear!

Yes, Big Bear has real magic carpets! Whoever said that magic carpets don't exist has never been to Big Bear Lake.

A big favorite of many visitors ( and locals alike) is our commercial snow play hills. All day long the hill side at the resorts abound with guests wisking down the snowy slopes in brilliantly colored inner tubes!

The Gold Rush Resort Rentals office is just down the street from the Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain, which is also home to Big Bear Snow Play Slopes. Offering a magic carpet for guests convenience.

The magic carpet has transformed this activity into a much easier experience, as it allows guests to simply board the carpet and rest while the carpet moves forward on its up hill climb to the top of the mountain. Once at the peek, guests simply get off the carpet, choose their spot and ride down the slope. Sounds easy? Well, it is! Simple as that.

No more climbing stairs, which makes it alot easier, especially when taking small children along. The magic carpet makes the day go by quickly and you're able to ride down alot more times than ever before.

The snow play hill is seasonal, however, the resort also grooms its hill with man made snow as often as proper conditions exist. So, it's open for snow play fun well into the Spring as the resort usually has a deep base.

Come on up to Big Bear and experience a real magic carpet ride, then, you too can tell everyone that magic carpets really do exist!

Check out what's new with Elk Lodge!

News flash!!  Our Elk Lodge cabin Elk Lodge - 1has undergone a change to the way it can be rented!  Like our "Chipmunk Lodge" and "Goldrush" cabins, Elk Lodge has been divided into having 3 different ways to configure the cabin so that smaller groups or families can rent the cabin, keeping the spaciousness and ambiance of the cabin, but without the higher cost or the extra unneeded unused space of the entire cabin.
Renting the whole "Elk Lodge" cabin, you get a spacious 3 bedroom plus den sleeping area,  2 bath cabin that sleeps 12 comfortably.  It boasts a remodeled kitchen, fireplace, wireless internet, a pool table, Ms Pacman arcade game, washer/dryer, spacious decks with a gas barbeque, a spa, garage access and a lake view.  Winter guests are also treated to a snow play sledding hill in the yard!  Additionally it is just a short walk to Big Bear Lake's Pleasure Point Marina!
If you have less in your group but would still like to experience this cabin, Elk Lodge becomes "Lake View Lodge" which will sleep 4 to 8 people in style.  You would have access to 2 of the 3 bedrooms, plus the den/sleeping area and the 2 bathrooms as well as the remainder of the fabulous amenities mentioned above.
Even less in your group?  "Big Bear Getaway" would accommodate 2 to 6 people with access to  the main master bedroom with the king size bed, plus the den sleeping area, the 2 baths, kitchen, fireplace, the pool table and Ms Pacman game, garage, BBQ, deck and spa (however, there would be no access to the washer/dryer area with this configuration of the cabin).
Elk Lodge and it's new additions are also now a member of our "pet friendly" cabins as well!  So consider Elk Lodge for your next Big Bear vacation!
*When the smaller versions  would be in use, the locked off portions of the cabin would be unoccupied to ensure complete privacy to your group.  Rental of these smaller configurations would also require prior approval from management.

Snow Creations for 2012/13 Winter Season

This winter season has been awesome! We thank all our returning guests as well as first timers for making Gold Rush Resort Rentals their choice for their stay this 2012/13 season.

Keeping with our motto, Service First - Fun Always, we embarked on making sure our guests had an opportunity to experience some good ol' fashion time in the snow by providing them with our "snowman" kit and letting them know that we are having a snowman contest for a free weekend.

Here are some creatively cute creations. It's going to be difficult to choose who is the winner! Actually, everyone is a winner when it comes to sharing some quality time with friends and family doing an activity you would not be able to share together when you are down the hill.

Check these out, we're sorry for some of the photos not being right side up, we aren't sure how to change this as we have tried various things to no avail.......

Three Leaf Clover is not Milarky!

With St. Patricks Day approaching it's a good time to gather some three leaf clovers and add them to your floral arrangement, or , better yet, wear them somewhere on your person.

We were lucky enough to visit Ireland, bought a necklace that had a three leaf clover encased within a glass heart. We've seen them offered in a retail boutique in Las Vegas.

Anyway, just wanting to warn everyone, we've seen some funny little green fellows running around town, don't know what they are up to (certainly not as high as 3 ft. tall) but we believe they will be spreading some mischief over the lephrachaun holiday.

Keep your doors and windows closed, wear green, and drink shamrock shakes! We have a good recipe for making your own shamrock shake in our recipe section.

Snow-cations are Coming to an End !

We have had lots of fun welcoming many vacationers to their very own snow-cation! As you can imagine, the winter is high time in Big Bear. Although Big Bear is a four season resort, many guests flock to our popular destination during the winter as Big Bear is Southern California's premiere destination for family fun of the snowy kind!

Big Bear is home to two awesome ski resorts, Snow Summit and Bear Mtn., each offer their own specialties to skiers and snowboarders. With classes offered daily, families can come and enjoy whether they are beginners or old pros. Parents with small children can enter their children in classes in the kids' ski programs and have the comfort in knowing that the staff is helpful and friendly and that their child will end their day on the slopes with confidence and enthusiasm.

If you aren't into snow skiing or boarding the next best thing is to take a ride down snowy slopes at one of the commercial snow play areas in Big Bear Lake. We have two, one in Bear City and one towards the west side of Big Bear Lake.  You'll have fun at either one, whichever you choose you will be delighted to know that they each have a "magic carpet", yes, you heard me, a magic carpet! This wisks you up the hill without breaking a sweat! Just jump on and let it take you to the top while you ascend the hill. Once on top you simply place your inner tube where you want and glide down the hill to quickly want to get up and do it all over again.

Those guests who have rented a private cabin that offers it own snow play hill ( and we have a number of them to choose from) won't need to spend the extra money at the commercial resorts to have such fun. If you forgot to bring your tobbagan or snow saucer, Gold Rush Resort Rentals, or many other neighborhood retailers carries them for purchase.

When snow blankets the ground, you'd be hard pressed to not find a family or kids outside creating snowmen or other snow sculpture! It's fun to drive the streets and view the snow creations left by the artists that had fun in the afternoon.

Big Bear offers a small town atmosphere with a big heart! Our locals are friendly and eager to show our guests a great time!

Come on up and enjoy your own snow-cation before its too late!

Don't Forget Us! Big Bear is a 4 Season Resort!

With the winter season almost at an end, it is surprising to me the amount of people who only think about Big Bear as a winter-season resort!  More than once, as our guests are leaving, I have said, "Don't forget about us in the summer!" and they will look at me quizzically and say "What is there to do in Big Bear in the summer?!"
Well .......for instance,  we have this big blue jewel of a lake that offers so much in the way of summer recreation, not to mention the great hiking and bicycling trails, the Moonridge Alpine Zoo, the historical museum, the Discovery Center programs (Music in the Mountains, just to mention one .... ) fireworks over the lake on July 4th, and the peace and quiet and clean mountain air that abound and refresh not only physically but mentally.  There is the spring and fall, also, that offer a myriad of opportunities for exploration of our beautiful valley.  Also it is less crowded on a typical "off season" weekend, than a busy mid-winter weekend.
Big Bear is so close to much of Southern California, including the San Diego and Las Vegas areas.  Remember, if you've stayed with us before, returning guests receive a 10% discount off the base rate and first time guests qualify for a 5% discount off the base rate!  We also offer military, police and firefighter discounts.  We have pet friendly cabins, cabins with hot tubs, cabins close to the lake, cabins for large family reunions and for just 2!
Remember to think Big Bear for all seasons of fun!

Winter Snow has been Perfect!

Today's scheduling has gone by quickly and the evening is now upon us. With most of our check-in's all snug in their cabins, we are awaiting a few more before calling it a day.

We've handed out snowman kits to our guests and are happily anticipating seeing the creative works of art that our guests come up with. Of course, all the new additions will be added to the contest.

Our team has really enjoyed this winter season! It's been nice to have some consistent snow fall in Big Bear without it being records levels, just enjoyable and pleasant.

Mother Nature seems to have planned it perfectly for our guests as well. Most of the time our snow events have fallen (pun intended) on or near the weekends making it awesome timing for everyone to enjoy the reason they came in the winter.

Our guests have told us that they enjoy when there is snow on the properties so that it allows them to stay at the property without getting into busy commercial locations.

Whatever you choose, making snowman, snow caves, snowball fights, or sledding down your own private snow play hill, we have many cabins to choose from for your perfect stay in Big Bear.

Our team is going to miss the winter season as it has been a fun time for all of us.

Winter White in Big Bear

Welcoming our guest with a "White" carpet to Big Bear!  Last night and this morning we have been receiving snow, just in time for all our guests to enjoy their weekend.

Come on up and take advantage of the end of the season snow fall.

We're here waiting to serve you - we still have a few cabins left for those of you who have not made advance plans.

There's Still Time Left!

Hello winter lovers!  Even though the weather has a touch of Spring to it .... it's still winter here in the San Bernardino mountains, and I do mean BIG BEAR LAKE!!  We locals say that it's never safe to do any outdoor gardening until after Mother's Day, so there is potential for snow up until then.  Both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit typically only stay open for the ski season into mid April due to their special use permit issued by the US Forestry Service.
